The Long Beach Jail is located inside the Long Beach Police Department in Downtown next to the 710 freeway. The Long Beach Police typically takes upwards of 12 hours to book an inmate into their custody at which point the arrestee will be eligible for release on bond or on a citation depending on the charges they were arrested on. Every person booked into the custody of the jail must go through the same booking process which includes gathering personal information, pictures, and a quick health exam. To verify the information given to the jailer, every inmate’s finger prints are gathered electronically via a live scan machine. Live scan is digital finger printing utilized for criminal back ground checks. The digital prints are sent to the county, state and Department of Justice for verification of identity and to verify that the individual has no active holds or warrants. The jail is one of largest city jails in California and has the ability to house over 200 inmates. The women’s facility can hold up to 70 inmates and the men’s facility can house up to 132 inmates. The jail is a “Type I” facility which can house non-sentenced inmates for up to 96 hours not including holidays. The facility does house a small number of sentenced inmates who volunteer as inmate workers or trustee. Over 18,000 individuals are booked into custody annually.
Long Beach provides inmate visitation via video monitors due to the location of the jail which is several floors above the lobby. Visitations are open to the general public. Visitors will be denied visiting if they have been in the custody of the Long Beach Jail within in the past six months and they must not have any active warrants. A valid government issued I.D. is required to for a quick criminal records check and to verify the visitor’s identity. One child is allowed to visit with a legal guardian. All visitations are 15 minutes long at which point the monitor turns off automatically. The visiting room is located inside the lobby with four monitors for visiting and a door for privacy. Inmates are guaranteed one visit a day with the possibility of a second visit. Visiting for the public is daily between set hours listed below however; attorneys and bail bondsmen are permitted 24 hour visitations.
Misdemeanors: 2pm to 4pm
Felonys: 4pm to 6pm
Trustee: 1pm to 2pm
The police station also provides live scan services for the public four days a week by appointment and costs $30.00.

Parking for the jail is located on surrounding streets or in the parking structure on the corner of Broadway and Magnolia across the street from the jail. Parking is shared with both the police station and the courthouse. The time of day often dictates the amount of spaces available in the structure and the surrounding streets. Typically, after 5 pm daily, there is more than enough parking for visitations that if free of charge. During court hours, parking can costs $10 for the entire day.
The Long Beach Police Station Jail accepts bail bonds 24 hours a day including holidays and weekends. Bonds are turned in at the lobby window, reviewed and then sent to the jailer for release. The jail will typically release the individual in 30-45 minutes. Arrestee’s are released out a side gate on Magnolia & Broadway. The station lobby provides chairs for people waiting for their loved one’s release.
